onto today’s topic: wow i’m swamped 😵
not a single spot during the day has been left blank in my google calendar this week. despite being absolutely swamped, i don’t hate it nor do i feel overwhelmingly stressed.
the great part about college is that doses of socialization are automatically administered through nearly everything you do, so it still feels balanced. the only bucket of my life that’s shaping to be a little unfilled is my physical fitness. 🏃♀️
i seriously need more hours in the day, and the result is cutting out going to the gym and rollerblading. i console myself by saying that it’s just for this week, and time for myself will open up once more next week; however, that’s a slippery slope. you can rationalize every week to be “unbelievably swamped” — the only way to get around it is to be unwavering in your own priorities. just this time though, i’ll allow it considering the fact that i have 3 midterms today. 💀
i’ve written about time management and my own strategies multiple times as it relates to using google calendar + notion religiously, but i want to touch on how i organize my time in a way that optimizes my productivity. it’s one thing to organize your time, and it’s another to organize it well (a way that works for you).
i’ve noticed that i waste a lot of time when i’m context-switching. that time spent opening new tabs, getting your brain into gear, and gaining momentum adds up really quickly. when i time block, i ensure those periods reserved for deep work are lengthy. ⏲️ with these 3 midterms, for example, instead of studying for each subject every day, i focused on studying for one class per day.
i’m much more productive this way, and i apply this same strategy to non-school things too. in simple terms, give your days focus-themes.
