onto today’s topic: your worst case scenario ✈️

realistically, you’ll be just fine.

we all have moments of being overwhelmed by insurmountable dread related to the future and your career, but if you zoom out for a second you’ll realize that you’re going to be okay.

whenever i sense this feeling creeping up on me, i have a pretty methodical way of getting myself out of that headspace, and it works every time.

i will walk you through what i do, step by step:

1) ask myself: “what timeline am i stressing over right now?” often times, this tends to be me getting hung up over the short-term and my self-diagnosed need to be making rapid progress week-over-week. 😬

2) zoom out to the long-term. that’s it — i’ll literally mentally envision myself staring at a timeline of my life, and zoom out of that. it sounds silly, but that visualization component actually works really well.

3) walk myself through my best-case outcome (what i’m stressed about), my current status, and my realistic worst-case outcome. heavy emphasis on realistic. 🎯

4) take a moment for gratitude. every single time, without fail, i’ll remind myself that my realistic worst-case outcome isn’t so bad at all in the grand scheme of things. i’m willing to bet it would be the same for you as well.

5) go do something to revitalize my joy for the present. ☀️ this typically looks like hanging out with friends, going rollerblading or perhaps a random sidequest.

don’t be so consumed by your aspirations and that future that you can’t even enjoy the present. the only certain thing in our lives is every passing moment.

of course, it’s wonderful to dream big and aspire to reach past the bounds of your capabilities, but just know you’re doing just fine as is. don’t let the fear of things not working out become the only thing plaguing your present — take comfort in the fact that the realistic situation you’ll be left in if you don’t follow your 10-year plan to each detail, is not bad at all. 🧘‍♀️
