onto today’s topic: you’re not running out of things to say 💬
i don’t think you can ever run out of things to say or ideas to share. when a conversation dries up though, it sure feels like it.
especially in group settings with others with a larger dial for extroverted energy, i feel like everything i have to say immediately leaves my brain. that was until i stopped making comments, and instead started telling stories.
your whole life is built upon thousands, if not millions, of experiences and memories. there’s no way you’ll ever run out of stories to tell, and surely at least one of them will flow into the conversation.
you will, however, run out of passing comments to dish out like, “yeah! i actually ate at that restaurant last week.” why don’t you instead tell me about how despite eating at that restaurant, the best fried rice you’ve ever had was actually at this small stand in the next town over? 🍚 now the conversation will lead into food recommendations and exploring different cities, rather than fizzling out and leaving you in a pit of insecurity for killing the conversation because you’re not “interesting enough.”
see what i’m trying to say?
it definitely is a skill to be able to: 1) recall these stories, and 2) be good at telling them. well, practice makes perfect! my approach to #1 has been capturing these stories in the blogs i write or brief reflections i write in notion at the end of each day. ✍️ writing about experiences solidifies the memory for me, thus making it easier to recall — it screams analytical-type, i know LOL. #2 is always a work in progress, but i’d like to think i’m getting better. :)
