onto today’s topic: 9pm cutoff 🤓

in high school, i set a boundary for myself and vowed not to do any school work past 9pm. side projects and other “productive” endeavours were excused but i generally left my nights to spend genuinely recharging. as a result, i’ve never once pulled an academic all-nighter nor do i intensely experience revenge bedtime procrastination.

i did that right from the get-go in high school and only realized this week how invaluable that rule is for my life. for the past 3 days, i’ve been forced to stay in the campus library from 6pm-2am each night as a part of a club’s initiation. 😵‍💫 hearing that task made me wonder again about the distinction between a challenge and a productive challenge, similar to one of my biggest insights from my outdoor leadership experience in the summer.

my consistent sleep schedule of 11pm-7am was entirely disrupted and i have been startlingly disoriented for the past 3 days. when i was in the library, i didn’t really have much of a choice on what to do besides locking in on work. ✍️ i am not productive at night by any means, and that has been reaffirmed with confidence recently.

i value my sleep and health highly. hustle culture doesn’t support a healthy one, which is why i never claim to be part of it. i will be sticking to my 9pm cutoff because it has served my brain and body extremely well.
