onto today’s topic: am i competitive? ⚽️

at a surface level, yes.

however, competition isn’t something that drives my motivation or personal/professional aspirations.

if we’re playing cards or a game of soccer, i absolutely am competitive. i’m locked in on the prize (winning). i was unfortunately that annoying kid in elementary school gym class .. i promise i’m not like that anymore. 😭

a little bit of competition always makes sports and games more fun.

it’s never that deep though. if your competitive spirit turns malicious and ends up hurting others it’s not worth it.

let me put this into perspective. i recently read an article on a few wild things some students did to ease the grade curve in college and it’s a prime example of how being overly-competitive can blend into simply being a bad person. 🤷‍♀️

imagine this: a student finishes their exam paper and proceeds to walk up to the proctor. they randomly point at another student in the exam hall and tell the proctor that student is cheating. the victimized student is then escorted out of the hall and receives a 0 on his paper.

that student never cheated, but now everyone else’s scores will get boosted. 😞

that’s never what competition should be about. i know the world is cutthroat and we must do all that we can to succeed, but our sense of self and moral compass is equally, if not more, important.

cultivate mudita, and success will come to everyone.
