onto today’s topic: ranking the holidays ✨
it’s halloweekend! in the spirit of the holidays, i am ranking the holidays that i celebrate (in similar fashion to me rating seasons). also question, would you consider your birthday a holiday or not?
5. thanksgiving 🦃
every year i forget thanksgiving is even a holiday. it’s just really irrelevant in my life, and it’s the same for the rest of my family. we have a nice dinner together, but that’s the end of that. there’s no buildup or excitement for the holiday. the only perk is a 4 day weekend instead of 2.
4. easter 🐰
i don’t celebrate the religious side of easter — i’m just there for the chocolate. easter is a sweet memory for my siblings and i, because my parents always told us to wait upstairs as they hid chocolate eggs and sweets around the house for us to go on an easter egg hunt later. it’s fun, but easter just isn’t that big of a deal so that’s why it’s still ranked on the bottom half.
3. diwali 🪔
culture !!! i absolutely love lighting fireworks on diwali and feeling connected to my culture with everyone else celebrating. i’m going to miss this holiday a lot this year being away from my family, but i’m sure it’ll work out with my hindu/sikh friends here in the bay.
2. halloween 🎃
spooky szn is always a vibe. i love the trick or treating with my family, hanging out with friends, haunted houses and dressing up in group costumes. it’s a full package holiday with hype around it so it’s always a blast. you guys already know i have a major sweet tooth too — it’s bliss.
1. christmas 🎄
it’s the holiday, what can i say? i love giving gifts so christmas has always been pretty big in my family. making cards, decorating our tree and watching the presents pile up is such a fond memory. christmas is so large in magnitude compared to the other holidays, so of course it’s #1. there’s just so much: the secret santa sleepovers, mariah carey blasting through the speakers, snow everywhere (most of the time), and making ginger bread houses. not to mention, we get at least 2 weeks off of school. everyone is together and it’s so warm, despite it being winter. i love christmas.
i know there’s other occasions people might consider holidays, but this is all there is in my books! what is your favourite holiday?
