onto today’s topic: how i cope with stress 😵💫
my main cause of stress tends to be a lack of organization (upcoming deadline, unplanned trip, etc.), so whenever possible, i’ll just get rid of the stressor all together by organizing my life or finishing the pending task that has developed into doom hanging over my head.
other times, i’ll just feel stress that has no root tied to it. sometimes you just have these feelings of dread that you can pinpoint the root cause of. for these cases, i do have a few coping mechanisms that i defer to.
1) rollerblade with music blasting 🎼
you all already know how much i love rollerblading — it’s one of my favourite ways to relieve stress, because in the moment i feel nothing besides the rush of excitement from speeding down streets and feeling music vibrating through my bones. it’s so thrilling, and makes my stress so insignificant.
2) hang out with friends 🫂
stress often comes from being in your own head for too long, so leaving that headspace by physically and socially putting yourself in another environment has worked wonders for me. the hangout might spin into a deep introspective chat about your deep fears, and just talking about it might just make you feel better. you never know!
3) literally just go to sleep 💤
if all else fails, i literally just go to sleep. i’ll end up forgetting about the stress, and the pit of dread passes. sleep is the best reset, both physically and mentally.
stress is so valid — everyone experiences it, but finding ways so it doesn’t fester and send you into a spiral is so important. how do you cope with stress?
