onto today’s topic: how to nap 💤
i’ve already told you guys that i’m not a huge napper, but for those few times where i am really falling victim to fatigue, i take a proper nap.
falling asleep for 2-3 hours in the middle of the day isn’t a nap, you just went to sleep for the day. 😭 chances are you also took a chunk out of your sleep for the night as well. setting a 20-40 minute timer, however, is a nap. if done properly, it should leave you feeling more awake and energized.
you’re probably thinking, “i’ve literally never felt more awake after a 20-minute nap. i feel worse.”
same.
until i started actually getting up and doing something after that quick nap. if you just lay there in bed after hitting “snooze” on your timer, of course you’ll still feel drowsy … you’re comfy in bed. in order to actually feel the effect of a nap you need to get yourself out of it — mentally and physically. falling back to sleep repeatedly until 20 minutes becomes 3 hours just extends that sleepy feeling which you’ll probably still be experiencing even after those 3 hours. ⏳️
if you do feel truly refreshed & ready to jump into action after a 20-minute nap, i’m jealous of you. i’ve only ever felt that way after a full night’s rest. since a nap is sometimes forced on me by my body though, forcing myself to get up after the first alarm tends to work best.
