onto today’s topic: hung up on potential 💫
promises of potential don’t lead to progress.
if you’ve been told that you have potential, don’t be satisfied with that when you could instead be actualizing that potential.
this follows the same line of thought as a post i wrote previously on ideas being nothing without execution. 💡 the same goes for potential: it isn’t reality — it’s what others think they can accomplish out of your circumstance with their own abilities. when people judge your potential, that’s just an evaluation of their ability to turn your situation into success if they were in your shoes.
actions speak much louder than words or projections. if you keep talking about the projects you want to start or that non-profit idea you have, realize that it’s not real until you’ve done it.
potential holds back your imagination.
“you have harvard potential.” 😐️
why is that the extent of what you can accomplish? you can do more than that, with an even wider range of achievements. projections of potential nurture tunnel vision and you become hyper-focused on why you’re not meeting others’ expectations.
the reason why is simple: what they’re saying about potential isn’t real. don’t be hung up on it.
potential isn’t a measure of anything substantial, so don’t let your ego over-inflate or deflate because of it. only your effort, actions, and tenacity are proof of what you can achieve.
