onto today’s topic: lock-in 🤓

what does it take for you to focus?

i’m still working on answering this question for myself. low key, i should start documenting the environment for the different times i’m able to enter a flow state so i can somehow draw a common denominator and replicate it when i need it.

that would be the solution to all of my discipline-related problems, genuinely. 😭

my hypothesized environment to optimize for a flow state is the following:

  • i’m with friends but we’re actually silent

  • fully charged headphones

  • the temperature has a slight chill

  • public setting (can NOT be my room)

  • a full stomach 🥑

so far, i’ve been able to lock in best at the library with my friends when we actually commit to being silent (this is the hardest part). i can study alone, but i’ve noticed that i get distracted by my phone a lot easier when that’s my only company. the social pressure keeps me zeroed in and my phone off.

it’s a slippery slope though — sometimes the yaps are too good, but i’m working on pomodoro-ing with yaps instead of phone breaks which keeps my brain stimulated. 😁

yay, finals week. good luck!
