long drives

onto today’s topic: long drives 🚗

i enjoy long drives, but ‘long’ is pretty relative.

a fully-loaded car with my family for 8+ hours? yeah, maybe not. both of my siblings get horrifically carsick after all.

driving solo or with a few friends for < 3 hours? yes pls.

i’m currently on a road trip with my family, driving across canada’s east coast and the maritimes. in all honesty, i’m not a big road trip girly. to me, a road trip is a series of drives longer than 6 hours each, but i don’t really know what ‘normal’ road trip time or distance is. 🛣️

i thoroughly enjoy long drives — car conversations with a talented aux hit different. i remember playing a game my family and i dubbed ‘atlas’ throughout my childhood in the car. we’d name countless countries and cities while exploring them one at a time.

there’s something rejuvenating about watching beautiful scenery whip past rapidly like stop motion film. throw in a sunset or sunrise and i’m having the best time of my life. 🌅

if i’m not reading or yapping while on a long drive, i lose myself to my thoughts and soak in the present. these kinds of drives feel like pauses in life — those in between periods where reality is like an afterthought.

they feel like mental resets further emphasized by the physical shift upon reaching a new destination.
