onto today’s topic: i think i’m a morning person ⛅️
ever since coming to sf, i have crashed by 11pm and woken up at 7am. i don’t even set an alarm — i just wake up naturally.
i’m so baffled, and can’t really pinpoint a particular reason why. maybe it’s the hustle and bustle of the bay that wears me out throughout the day? perhaps it’s the serenity i get in the mornings by myself?
before moving, i thought it would be the other way around — that i would turn into a night owl with all the different events and have late starts to my mornings. even after staying up until 3am the other night (long story), i still naturally woke up at 7am and wasn’t really tired. 😴
my hypothesis is that my evenings are filled to the brim with social interaction and hustle, that i find the slow pace of the morning refreshing and energizing (more on my energy dynamic here). i take my time to read, eat breakfast and take a walk without feeling external pressure to get on the grind, since it seems like people only get up and start tinkering around noon.
the morning helps me start my day off with control, instead of constantly being on go, go, go mode (as sf is infamous for). i wouldn’t consider 7am too early either though — i will not be going back to my 5am morning phase. this timeframe still lets me hit any important evening events while getting enough sleep. it’s the perfect middle ground between control & letting myself go with the social flow. 🌬️
before moving i would take any extra sleep that i could get, but now when i wake up before my alarm i find it a chore to go back to sleep. if i could pinpoint the exact reason, i would tell you, but this is just an observation i have from the past week and a half. maybe i’ll figure it out in a few days, who knows?
are you a morning person or a night owl?
