onto today’s topic: routine or nothing 🗓️
one of the few things that gave me some semblance of control while on the boat, and also now during welcome week at school, is routine. even something as simple as making it a point to wash my face, put on sunscreen and lip balm and do a little bit of reading every morning helped me maintain my sanity when things were going a little crazy.
without routine, i feel super disoriented. i like being in control of my life, even if it’s just 10 minutes in the morning. ☀️ i am a super spontaneous person that thrives off of adventure, but my adamance about my routine sustains that.
going with the flow completely might be really fun, but i’m pretty firm on the fact that the enjoyment lasts longer if you still reel in the power over your own life by exercising discipline and pursuing the things you enjoy more consistently.
in all honesty, i felt a liiiittle overwhelmed thinking about school while i was in maine. 😵💫 in the back of my head, i knew it was because i hadn’t taken the time to properly think through my big intentions and goals, which tend to frame routine. during the ‘solo’ portion of that maine trip, i had 48 hours to do exactly that.
i reflected deeply and the difference i observed in myself before and after establishing some direction for school was drastic. it was like i was a/b testing my own brain LOL. obviously, the conclusion was b: think through routine and execute on it so you don’t go crazy. 😇
