onto today’s topic: waking up well-rested 😴
i haven’t figured out the formula to getting a good night’s sleep despite having sufficient sleep. i get a solid 7-9 hours of sleep per night, but the quality of my sleep still feels so variable, which is frustrating.
the first step, of course, is to sleep enough. it’s important to differentiate between how much sleep you need to function vs. how much you need to feel well rested. my well-rested threshold generally seems to be around 8.5 hours. that’s a pretty hard ask for a college student with class at 8am. 😭
there’s no real way to “hack” sleep. you just have to sleep enough, and work on the different factors affecting quality afterwards.
i’m sure you’ve heard of the piece of advice to not be on any electronic devices before bed, and i’m guilty of never following that. while i don’t intensely feel revenge bedtime procrastination, that half-hour before sleeping feels like the only time i can actually give my full attention to replying to texts.📱
i don’t even drink caffeine, so screen time seems to be the key pointer towards my inconsistent quality of sleep right now. for the rest of february, i’m going to start keeping a sleep log of # hours slept, date, and quality of sleep. i’ll make an intentional effort to stay away from a screen before sleeping some days and compare it to when i don’t.
just for my own peace of mind. 😇
